LECTIO DIVINA RETREATwith Michael Fonseca, Phil Krill, Jeff Wincel February 19-21, 2010 As a method of prayer Lectio Divina is a tried and true tradition. It will help us get in touch with and be a part of the communion of saints, who used this method to enter into God’s heart through the silent pondering of God’s Living Word. When Lectio Divina becomes the disciple’s lifestyle, all of life is then viewed and experienced as being filled with the Presence of the Living God. The disciple then walks in the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit. As a result, community with God and the Body of Christ becomes the norm. This retreat will be a meaningful step towards creating and fostering a Lectio Divina lifestyle.
THE PASSION ACCORDING TO LUKEFather William Taylor March 19-21, 2010 Saint Luke’s Passion narrative will be read this year on Palm Sunday (March 28). This retreat will provide reflections on several passages in the Passion story that are unique to Luke. It will offer an opportunity for meditation on these individual passages, as well as the Passion narrative as a whole.
DEEPER CONVERSION: EXTRAORDINARY GRACE FOR ORDINARY TIMESSister Ann Shields, OP April 16-18, 2010 If we choose to be disciples of the Lord — not bystanders but true followers — then we have to be conformed to his Word. Are you connected to the latest technology – cell phone, PDA, iPod, Internet – but not connected to the Word of God as it comes to us in Scripture? The Bible not only nourishes us, Pope Benedict XVI has said, it also dispels the darkness of fear and lights up the path in difficult times. Meditating on Scripture is essential for every Christian, especially in a culture that disregards the gospel message. This retreat will help you examine your life in the light of the Bible so that you can harvest the Word and apply it to your daily circumstances. Sustained and transformed by your encounter with the Lord, you will find strength for your own journey and healing wisdom to share with a weary world.
HOLY WOMEN FIND TRUE HAPPINESS WOMEN’S RETREATwith Teresa Monaghen April 30-May 2, 2010 Some reflections in the retreat will include:
Holiness = Happiness! In this retreat we will also be invited to give attentive consideration to the importance of Mary’s presence in the life of the Church and in our own lives. “Let us entrust ourselves to Her that she may guide our steps in this new period of time the Lord has given us to live, and help us to be true friends of her Son and courageous architects of His Kingdom in the world, a Kingdom of light and truth.” (Pope Benedict XVI)
COUPLES BY CANDLELIGHTwith Greg & Julie Alexander Date: February 11, 2010 Time: 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Cost: $40 per couple Several years ago Greg and Julie Alexander were at a point where they concluded that a divorce was the only way out of what they thought to be a troubled marriage. Living a life based on the things that society says are important, they went spiraling downward until they literally hit rock-bottom. A dear priest guided them back to the truths of the church. As they began to learn those truths and incorporate them into their lives, they were able to restore the love that they once had for each other. Join Greg and Julie as they share their amazing story of how materialism and self-centeredness almost broke up their marriage and how God turned it around. In the midst of sharing their story, Greg and Julie will explain God’s original plan for marriage and give practical ideas on how your marriage can thrive in the midst of a chaotic world.
COVENANT OF LOVE: MARRIAGE MINISTRY FOR PARISHESwith Greg & Julie Alexander Date: February 12, 2010 Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Cost: $50 per parish The Covenant of Love is a resource designed to strengthen parish marriage ministries, or build the foundation to create a parish marriage ministry. It is offered to parishes as a ministry to build a positive marriage community by offering educational and enrichment activities at the parish level, with practical ways to learn how to align our minds, spirits, attitudes, and actions to invigorate marriages in all stages. It combines theology, psychology and lived experience to strengthen, sustain, and restore marriages. THE GREAT ADVENTURE BIBLE TIMELINEwith Gary Patelski Dates: February 13, 20, 27 March 6, 13, 20, 27 and April 10 (Saturdays) Time: 9 – 10:30 a.m. Cost: $50 (includes materials) The Great Adventure is a Catholic bible learning system designed to give the average Catholic a solid foundation for a lifetime of bible reading. Jeff Cavins developed The Great Adventure in 1984 when he realized that most people, despite their strong faith, did not grasp the “big picture” of the bible. Though they knew selected stories, they were not able to connect them into a full narrative. His answer was to identify the books of the bible that tell the story from beginning to end. By reading just these 14 “narrative” books a chronological story emerges. From this idea grew the Bible Timeline program, which teaches the story in a way that is easy to remember and provides a solid foundation for people to continue reading and studying scripture on their own. Gary Patelski will serve as facilitator of this workshop, utilizing the materials and DVD presentations developed by Jeff Cavins. This eight-part workshop will be simulcast using a live video-teleconferencing tool. If you are interested in attending the workshop this way, please contact the Center for Ministry for details. First preference will be given to parishes.

WISDOM LITERATUREwith Father William Taylor Date: April 17, 2010 Time: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cost: $35 (includes lunch) One of the kinds of literature found in the Old Testament is Wisdom literature. Six books are usually included in this category: Proverbs, Song of Songs, Job, Qoheleth, Sirach, and Wisdom of Solomon. A brief introduction to the genre itself will be followed by introductions to each book and attention to select passages. Particular attention will be paid to passages that appear in the three-year Sunday lectionary cycle. . DISCERNMENT OF SPIRITSwith Father Timothy Gallagher, OMV Date: April 23 & 24, 2010 Time: Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cost: $70 (includes lunch both days) In this workshop, Fr. Gallagher helps participants understand St. Ignatius of Loyola’s ‘Rules for Discernment,’ and how there insights are invaluable for our spiritual growth today. By integrating the Rules and the experience of contemporary people, Fr. Gallagher shows the precision, clarity, and insight of Ignatius’s Rules. While especially valuable for retreat directors, spiritual directors, priests, and counselors, this workshop is also for all who desire greater awareness of God’s action in their daily spiritual lives.
